Update Your Bathroom Vanity in 5 Easy Steps

According to HGTV.com, updating your bathroom is the #1 home update you can make to get the most bang for your buck.  Now, we aren’t talking about a massive remodel.  We are talking about minor renovations that can be done with little time and little money.  One of the easiest ways to spruce up your bathroom space is to update your vanity. In this post, I will show you easy ways to update your bathroom vanity in 5 easy steps.

Bathroom vanity diy! These 5 steps to update your bathroom vanity give it great updated look without doing a full bathroom remodel. A quick bathroom redo!

Update your bathroom vanity with paint:

One of the quickest ways to update your bathroom vanity is with a fresh coat of paint.  It will give you the flexibility to fix imperfections, fill existing cabinet hardware holes, and add new molding or achitecture.  Paint can make the vanity look new again and, as a result,  has one of the highest returns on investment.

Update your bathroom vanity with furniture feet:

Transform your builder-grade vanity by simply adding furniture feet to the bottom.  These feet were glued on using Liquid Nails.  Depending on the style of the cabinet and the shape of the furniture feet, you may be able to attach them with a screw.

Now your outdated bathroom vanity looks like a piece of furniture.

Update your bathroom vanity with new cabinet hardware:

Cabinet hardware is the easiest way to change the look of a piece of furniture.   I call it the jewelry that compliments the perfect outfit.  From knobs to pulls, there are so many cabinet hardware options on the market.  Choose a style, type and finish that fits your decorating style.

Update your bathroom vanity by adding a new countertop:

Changing out the outdated cultured marble vanity top and replacing it with a new countertop and undermount sink will dramatically change to look of your bathroom vanity.

Update your bathroom vanity by adding a new faucet:

As homeowners, we use one or more of our faucets every day.  Is yours completely outdated or suffering from what I call “slow-drip fever”?  One of the most noticeable signs of bathroom neglect is a leaky faucet.  If you have an outdated faucet or one that leaks or drips, replace it with an updated model that coordinates with the rest of your space.

These are some of my favorite faucets on the market today.  They come in an assortment of finishes which makes it easy to coordinate your space.  If you are keeping your existing vanity top, you will need to match your new faucet to the existing plumbing holes in your countertop.  If you are replacing the vanity top, they will drill your holes to fit your new faucet.

Not sure if your bathroom vanity will ever look as good as the ones you see if the fancy model homes???  Follow these 5 easy steps and I promise it will!

I have always framed the builder grade mirror to update it. I have not removed a mirror that has been glued to the wall. It's easier to give it an upscaled look!

We are just in the 'getting ready to list our home' phase now and updating our bathrooms is something we are considering. Thanks for the suggestions. Lynn

All great tips! In 25 plus years mine are out of date....ALL have had new faucets and knobs, one got a total redo, another I started painting the cabinets ...2 years ago. :) obviously that one is rarely used. I have just decided to save money on our main floor powder room and have the cabinet professionally painted to match our kitchen and wet bar on that floor and get a new top. But the master needs the whole deal and that is a bit scary. Timely for me!
