Preparing The Accent Wall to Paint:
Step 5) Using 220-grit sandpaper, begin sanding each and every edge of the plywood.
Diva Tip: If I re-created this wall again, I would sand the edges of the plywood prior to nailing it to wall.
Step 7) Fill the nail holes with Bondo. You can use a putty knife or my personal favorite…your finger. Let dry. Repeat if necessary.
Step 7) Caulk each seam where plywood meets the wall or plywood meets another board. Let dry. Repeat if necessary.
Step 8) Apply a good quality primer made for raw wood. Let dry. The primer serves 2 purposes: 1) It seals the wood and 2) I will help identify any imperfections that need to be addressed prior to painting the wall paint.
The red areas on the wall are the areas I touched up after priming. I sanded one more time and the wall was ready for paint.
Step 9) Using a good quality wall paint and a paint sprayer, apply a coat of paint to the entire wall. Let dry. I chose to paint the accent wall the same color as the other walls in the room, Benjamin Moore HC-172 Revere Pewter.
Step 10) Repeat step 9. Let dry. Repeat if necessary.
Look at the incredible depth of this wall. The plywood literally jumps off the wall.
Here is a picture of the accent wall in the finished space. Isn’t it stunning? I think this project may be my absolute favorite.
