Now that the weather is warming up I am looking forward to spending more time outdoors. Creating a stylish outdoor patio doesn’t have to be a chore. With this guide, you will have all you need to enjoy some quality family time or a little relaxing alone time.
I have provided affiliate links for your shopping convenience. If you buy something from clicking one of my links, I will get a commission from the sale. It will not cost you a penny more and allows me to keep sharing my ideas with you for free. You can see my full disclosure here. Thank you for supporting my blog!
I want you to think of your outdoor patio as an extension of your home. That way you will remember to use it more during the warmer months. I hate getting to the end of the summer and wishing I had used our patio more. Outdoor patios are a great way to spend time with the family, get a change of scenery, or entertain friends.
Outdoor Patio Shopping Guide
This shopping guide will take you step by step in creating an amazing outdoor patio. Enjoy, and be sure to send in pictures!
If your patio doesn’t have a built-in roof you will want to find the perfect shading for your area. There are so many to choose from. I love one that is set to the side for seating areas. For dining sets, you might consider an umbrella that comes from the center of the table.
I’m showing neutral umbrellas here because I love to add some color with rugs and pillows. If you would prefer an umbrella with some color then go with a more neutral color for your other decorative elements.
Outdoor Patio Lighting
Lighting is so important for those fun summer nights with friends and family. I just love string lights but feel free to get even more decorative with a chandelier or some cute lanterns.
If you are more of the DIY type, get my scrapwood lantern tutorial here.
This is where I love to add color and design. You might be thinking, why do I need an outdoor rug? Rugs will tie the space together, giving the space a purpose and a place you will feel like gathering.
Outdoor Dining Sets
Be sure to pick a set that matches your style and has enough seating for the type of entertaining you want to do. If you want dinners with the whole family these sets are great. For larger gatherings that don’t need a table setting, you can create additional seating areas.
If you have a patio set that has good bones but is in need of a makeover, visit my tutorial on updating your patio furniture with paint here.
You might not always entertain dinner guests on your outdoor patio. Additional seating sets like these are comfortable and allow you to entertain more guests.
Pillows are another way to add color and design. Outdoor pillows are made to be a more durable in the outdoors but outdoor storage can help make your pillows and blankets last longer.

Outdoor Patio Storage
Don’t forget your storage! It can double as seating or as a table but will always help protect and organize your outdoor patio essentials.
