Who doesn’t love making holiday decorations from supplies found at the Dollar Store! A Dollar Store Pumpkin is made of styrofoam and most of them have a pretty good seam right around their middle. I have to admit they are not quite as nice as the foam pumpkins from other stores but hey…. they’re a dollar!
I am so in love with the industrial and metallic look that is so popular right now! Heck I even painted wall art for our new lake house in shiny metallic colors to fit in with my rustic decor! Who would have thought that rustic decor would start to get a more modern feel by adding shiny pieces? So maybe this year it’s time to add some shine to you fall decorations with this Dollar Store Pumpkin covered in thumbtacks!

Dollar Store Pumpkin Supplies:
- Dollar Store Pumpkin – believe it or not these are the best because the styrofoam holds the tack in better!
- Thumbtacks – I used 800 of these for this 4″ pumpkin
- Metallic Spray paint – I used this one
- painter’s tape – optional
Dollar Store Pumpkin Instructions:
Step 1) Spray paint your pumpkin silver. By spray painting the pumpkin the color of the thumb tacks it is more forgiving if there is some pumpkin peaking out from under the tacks.
Diva Tip: If you want to keep the stem it’s original color tape it off before spray painting it to protect it from overspray.
Step 2) Starting at the top of the pumpkin close to the stem begin pushing in the thumb tacks making sure to overlap them when needed to cover the pumpkin.
Step 3) Continue pushing in the thumbtacks going around in a circle until the pumpkin is covered.
It takes a lot of patience but believe me it is worth it! I wish you could feel the pumpkin, it feels so cool when you hold it.
Another option is to only do the peaks of the pumpkin like this gold one. Sorry the picture is fuzzy, I didn’t take a picture of the gold one by itself so it’s got the blown up fuzzys. Lol!
