I love chalk-style paint for many reasons:  1) its easy to use  2) it sticks to anything and 3)  its well-worn vintage feel. We all have seen chalk-style paint on furniture but… have you ever thought of all of the other things you can paint with it?  What about a distressed pumpkin painted with Chalky paint?

I use Chalk-style paint to paint picture frames, furniture, accent pieces, decorative accessories, tile, glass and now…pumpkins! Traditional Chalk Paint is expensive and comes in large quantities but with Diva of DIY Chalk Mix you can add it to any latex paint to make as much or as little as you need.

Distressed Pumpkin Instructions

Mix up your Chalk Style paint using this recipe:

Mix latex paint additive into hot water. Stir until smooth. Pour your powder/water mixture into the latex paint.  Stir until completely smooth.

I used Sherwin Williams Interesting Aqua to mix my Chalk Style paint. It is very close to Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg Blue

Step 1)  Using a paintbrush, paint the chalk style paint mixture over entire pumpkin. Let dry.

Step 2) Lightly sand with a sanding block and apply a second coat if needed.  Let dry.

Diva Tip: The pumpkin can be painted with 2 different colors and sand the second coat down to the first coat.

Step 3)  Lightly sand with a sanding block.  The amount of white you expose is completely up to you.

Diva Tip:  If you can’t find white pumpkins, you can definitely use orange ones but keep in mind that you will see the orange from the pumpkin if you sand back aggressively.
