It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! and that makes me super happy. I love the music, shopping, baking and DECORATING!!! Which means it’s time to make Christmas ornaments!
It is a tradition in my family to make personalized Christmas ornaments each year. I love it and start looking forward to it as soon as Labor Day hits. Â This year my boys (Twins are 13 and my oldest is 16) told me they are too old to make ornaments for our tree. Here is what I told them…”If you still go trick-or-treating then you can definitely still make a Christmas ornament”! Don’t you agree with my logic?
I decided this year to come up with an ornament that was a little more age-appropriate for my teenage boys. I also decided to incorporate my love of recycling into the project. It was a perfect excuse to order Pizza. LOL. So here we go.

Supplies for Christmas Ornaments:
- Cardboard ( I used several pizza boxes and cut them up)
- Ribbon in assorted colors and themes TIP: I used scrapbook ribbon
- Glue (This is what I used)
- Sharp scissors
Instructions for Christmas Ornaments:
This project is so easy it doesn’t need much instruction. Cut your cardboard into the shape you want your ornament to be. Slather one side of the cardboard with Tacky Glue (I watered it down 25% so it was easier to spread) and then lay strips of ribbon on top of the glue. (Make sure your ribbon pieces are longer than the cardboard shape). Let the glue completely dry before cutting off the ribbon edges.
Here is a picture of the back of the cardboard before we trimmed the ribbon edges. Attach a small piece of ribbon for the tree trunk. You will also need to glue a hanger to the top. I used some leftover twine.
I finished it off with a button for the star.
These were really fun and since I had some extra pizza boxes I made a few more. Here are some of the ones we made:
Sports Theme
Puppy Theme
Burlap with Gems
Whatever your style, whatever your passion, you can make one of these Christmas ornaments to match it! The boys went along with these because they could make ones for sports and our dog. Have fun and make them your own!
