Is your front door tired, faded, beat up or just …never been painted? Let’s transform your front door with Modern Masters Front Door Paint!

Improve your curb appeal and increase your "welcome-factor" using Modern Masters Front Door Paint! Colors that hold up to the outside!

I’ve been using Modern Masters products for over 15 years and truly believe in the brand.  When I found out about their new front door paint that was guaranteed not to fade I had to try it. The Modern Masters Front Door Paint is a new line for Modern Masters.

It’s always been said that if you are a mechanic by trade your cars are always needing work, the landscapers yard {uhhh hello!} is the roughest looking on the block and the painter’s home…well ya know! So it wasn’t much of a surprise that the front door at the shop was in need of a transformation, to say the least.

Did you know that people automatically form an opinion about what the inside of a home (or office) looks like by how it looks on the outside?  AND…people will form opinions about the people who live (or work) in the space by how it looks.  Based on the appearance of my shop…I’m in trouble. UGH!!!

I just can’t believe how drab my front door was.  I am suppose to be the TRENDSETTER OF THE YEAR and my door had never been painted.  {hanging my head in shame!} It was time to get to work!

Notice the ugly vines beside the door. I finally got around to updating that area as well. Check out how here at How to Make Easy and Unique Upcycled Tire Planters.

Front Door Paint Supplies:

I started by removing the door knobs and hardware.
Next, I wiped the doors down with Krud Kutter.

I taped off the glass from the double doors. I didn’t feel like spending hours with a razor blade removing all the paint!

I then began with the first layer of Bullseye 123 latex primer tinted in SW Portabella.  To be honest…I used this color because I had it left over from another job.  You could use white or any neutral color but…make sure it is water-based.  The Modern Masters Front Door Paint is latex and needs to go over a latex base. *Sorry about coloring of the next few photos, I had my camera set to take pictures inside and I forgot to change it.

TIP:  If you don’t know whether or not your door has a latex or oil based finish on it…Take some rubbing alcohol and a clean rag.  Wipe the cloth-soaked rag over the existing door color.  If the paint comes off…it’s latex.  If nothing comes off on the rag (except dirt. LOL), its oil.

Once the primer was dry, I added  the first coat of Modern Masters Front Door paint.  Begin by cutting in the corners with a brush and then roll out the color in sections.  Do this to each panel in the door.

Wait about an hour and apply a second coat of Modern Masters Front Door paint in the same format.  2 coats should do it!  Let the final coat dry at least an hour before reinstalling the hardware.

TIP:  2 coats will typically do the trick but…if you are using one of the rich, red tones such as “Sophisticated”, prime the door in a dark gray to ensure a good coverage.  Red can be tricky!
