How to make a DIY bird feeder out of an old chandelier

Old chandeliers are one of my favorite things to repurpose for several reasons:  I love that they come in all different shapes and sizes, they are almost free at every garage sale and they make a great DIY bird feeder.  Next time you are at a yard sale, grab two chandeliers and you can also make a solar chandelier for outdoor lighting to brighten your outdoor decor!

This is the first project I ever shared on Kansas City Live and I just shared it on Better KC.  It is still one of my very favorite projects.   My husband, John is a bird lover so several of these bird feeders are scattered around on our property. The pops of color they give to our yard make me smile.

Supplies for a DIY Bird Feeder:

  • Spray Paint in assorted colors- This is the brand I use
  • Chandelier
  • Custard Cups – I use these if I am putting candles in them
  • Custard Cups – I use one similar to this in the winter
  • Liquid Nails
  • Wire Cutters

Instructions to make a DIY bird feeder out of a chandelier:

Updating you home lighting? Don't throw away that old brass chandelier, repurpose it! Turn that old chandelier into a unique Bird Feeder with spray paint!

Step 10) Spray paint in desired color. Let dry.

I hope you will think about grabbing that old brass chandelier you see on your next visit to your local ReStore, thrift shop or garage sale. Thinking of these DIY bird feeders hanging in your backyard instead of being in a landfill somewhere makes my heart happy.

I love this idea! There are so many things you can do with a chandelier but this is one that I have never thought of! Very clever and I hope to do this next time I find a good used one!
