Deck Post Firecrackers – DIY Porch Decor

Get Patriotic with these easy DIY deck post firecrackers! Set them out for Memorial Day and leave them out on your porch through the fourth of July.

Supplies needed to make the Deck Post Firecrackers:

  • 4″ x 4″ deck post cut in staggering lengths (I have one set that is 8″, 10″ & 12″ and another set that is 18″, 22″ & 26″)
  • Exterior Paint in White, Navy and Red
  • Star Stickers or Star stencil (I used my Silhouette to cut my stars)
  • Painters tape in 1″ width
  • Paintbrush

Tools needed to make the Deck Post Firecrackers:

  • Mitre Saw
  • Drill
  • 1/4″ Drill bit

Steps to make the Deck Post Firecrackers:

Step 1: Paint each of the deck posts with white exterior paint. You can apply full coverage or dry brush the posts like I did…it’s all personal preference.

Step 2: Divide each of the post into a 1/3 section and a 2/3 section using 1″ painter’s tape.

Step 3: Place 1″ painters tape on the corners of all 4 sides of the 2/3 section of the post.

Step 4: Apply 2 coats of red exterior paint to the center stripe that has been taped off. Let dry. Repeat on other 3 sides. Remove tape.

Step 5: Apply 1″ painters tape over the top of dry red and white stripe (lower 2/3).

Step 6: Place star stencil or sticker over white paint.

Step 7: Apply 2 coats of navy exterior paint to the upper 1/3 section making sure to cover the star stencil. Let dry. Remove Stencil. Repeat on other 3 sides.

Drill a hole in the top of each deck post using your drill and 1/4″ drill bit.
