There are three areas on the outside of the home that, when maintained, really amp up the curb-appeal factor: The yard/landscaping, the front door and the outdoor lights. Before you go out and buy new, update what you have! See how to Paint a Front Door with Ease here and let’s talk about your outdoor light makeover…

Outdoor Light Makeover Supplies:

Outdoor Light Makeover Supplies:

1)  Shut the breaker off for the porch lights.  Double-check the power by flipping the light switch on and off.

2)  Unscrew the lights and remove them from the brackets.

3)   Separate the lights as much as possible. If you can’t remove the glass, tape it off to avoid over spray.

4)  Lay all of the lights out on the drop cloth or rosin paper (in an assembly-line order)

5)  Clean all of the pieces with Krud Kutter or dish soap & water prior to painting.

6)  Spray all of the metal pieces with the solid matte paint color first.  This color should be close to your metallic topcoat color.  Let dry.

7)   Next, completely cover the matte color with the metallic color. I chose Rustoleum Oil-rubbed bronze. This is what gives the sheen and give it a glam feel.  Let Dry.

8)  Using a small paint brush, detail the accents with the Statuary Bronze metallic paint.  Let dry.

9)  Spray a couple of coats of clear sealer over the top for extra protection.  Let dry.

10)   Clean the glass on the inside and outside.

11)   Replace the light bulbs.

12)   Put the lights back together and reinstall.
