Do you have an ugly crockpot? You know… one that you are embarrassed to pull out when guests come over?  Even worse, what if you are asked to bring a dish to a potluck dinner…oh the horror!  This inexpensive and super easy crockpot makeover will have you entering every chili cook-off in the state!

NOTE: This may be your grandmother’s crockpot but it won’t look like it!

This DIY crockpot makeover will take your ugly crockpot and make it look new again

 

Just imagine the stories this avocado crockpot could tell.  Yep it has seen better days but it still works so why in the world would I throw it away? I wouldn’t… I would give it a crockpot makeover using paint!

 Crockpot Makeover Supplies:

 

Instructions:

Step 1) Lightly sand it with your sanding sponge or 220-Grit Sandpaper

Step 2) Wipe it clean with Krud Kutter

This crockpot makeover will transform outdated crockpot with chalkboard paint. Make it look new again and write on it! Great entertaining & Tailgate Party!
Step 3) Using the chalkboard paint and a foam brush, cover the entire outside surface of the Crockpot. Let dry.  Do not paint the inside.

TIP:  If the center of your crockpot is removable, go ahead and take it out while painting.

Step 4) Lightly sand first coat, wipe with damp cloth and apply a second coat of chalkboard paint   Let dry.

Step 5) Repeat a third time.  Let dry overnight.

Step 6) Now it is time to “season” your new chalkboard. To do this, turn a piece of chalk on it’s side and rub it across the entire painted surface.  Use a  dry cloth and spread the chalk over the entire surface, making sure to rub it into the surface.

Step 7) Wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Let dry.

This crockpot was missing it’s knob! I simply took a wine cork, drilled a small hole in it, added a drop of E6000®  to the hole and attached it to front of the crockpot where the knob should have been.

And that’s it…we have taken an outdated crockpot and made it look hip and fun. You could simply paint your crockpot using this same method but I love the functionality the chalkboard paint adds. You can write your name on it, write the name of the dish or specify food allergy information.

Watch for crockpots at garage sales and thrift stores.  Plug it in, make sure it works and then snag it up for a bargain.  When a crockpot makeover is this easy, why would you ever pass one up?
