The Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller is extremely easy to install.
Step 1) Begin by taking a picture of your current sprinkler controller. This will come in handy when its time to hook your sprinkler zone wires to your new Rachio 3 controller.
Step 2) Open the new Rachio 3 weatherproof outdoor enclosure. It will expose 3 wires: Green, black and white. This is a pre-wired electrical outlet housed inside the outdoor box.
Step 3) To wire the electrical outlet, attach the green, black and white wires of the exterior power cord to the the coordinating colors inside the Rachio 3 outdoor enclosure box. Secure with wire nuts provided.
Step 4) Bring the existing sprinkler wires into the Rachio 3 outdoor enclosure through the hole provided.
Step 5) Open the box containing the Rachio 3 controller. Lay out the pieces for easy assembly.
Step 6) Plug the provided power cord into the weatherproof enclosure.
Step 7) Attach the controller to the outdoor enclosure using the screws provided. Make sure to pull the wires through the opening so you can connect them to the controller.
Step 8) Using the photo of your previously wired controller as a guide, attach the color coded wires into the easy press connectors. This is personally one of my favorite features.
Look at this side by side comparison of the my original sprinkler controller and the new Rachio 3 contoller. It was so easy to connect (less than 30 minutes) and its clean, easy to read and the outdoor enclosure is completely waterproof (unlike the original).
Step 9) Download the Rachio app through the google play store or the App store and follow the setup instructions. You will want to do this before attaching the faceplate so you can scan the the barcode on your controller.
Step 9) Attach the magnetic face place
Step 10) Close the waterproof outdoor enclosure.
Step 11) Login to the Rachio app to begin programming the controller the way you want. The beauty of this smart home technology is that it utilizes Hyperlocal Weather Intelligence Plus which uses data from the local weather stations to bypass the program based on the wind, rain or freezing temp criteria you set up in the app.
This is the app pulled up on my smart phone. I can monitor and adjust the sprinkler system from my phone, tablet or laptop and it works with most smart home platforms such as Amazon Alexa and Samsung Smartthings. This is a Smarter way to water your lawn.
