When I decorate, I typically buy neutral-colored foundation pieces (think couch, chair, etc…) and then infuse color through my accents and accessories. One great way to infuse colors and patterns is through your throw pillows. I make these on a budget by making the pillows out of place mats.
The best part about using placemats is…there is no sewing involved! This is a great way to add a variety of color/pattern to your home without breaking the bank.
This is also a great way to infuse the holidays into your decor. (Check out my Valentine’s Day Pillow!)
No Sew Pillows Supplies:
- Double-Sided Placemats, in desired pattern (holidays or colors/patterns to go with your decor)
- Polyfil
- Seam Ripper
- Liquid Stitch
- Stick Pins
There is a kit that I like order from Amazon. It’s a all in one no sew kit from Dritz. My local craft store sometimes carries it, but, when I know I’m needing it I’ll just order it just to be sure. It’s also great to have on hand for emergencies.
New Sew Pillows Instructions:
1) Use the seam ripper to open 3-4″ of one side of the placemat.
2) Stuff polyfil into the opening of the placemat to desired firmness. Diva Tip: I use a paint stick to push the polyfil down into the corners.
3) Use the Liquid Stitch to close the seam shut. I use a couple of stick pins to keep the opening shut until the glue dries.
That’s it! You are finished. Can you believe it? I promise this project is LIFE-CHANGING. No more hanging your head because you can’t sew. Take it from someone who can’t sew…no one will ever know you didn’t buy these pillows. They may even think you made them yourself!
