Industrial letters are a popular home decoration, but you don’t need to spend $20 at the store to get the look in your home. Our Diva of DIY, Leanne Lee creates artsy block letters with some really cool finishes for a fraction of the price.
Hi Divas! So I just want to tell you that when you make these industrial letters it does become a bit of an addiction! You’ll make one for your entry way, end up spelling EAT for your dinner, FAMILY for your dining room, LOVE for your mantle and this list goes on and on. I’m also willing to bet that when you invite friends and family over they will LOVE them so much and ask you to make a few for them as well, so just be prepared!
Let’s get you started with making your own industrial letters.
Supplies For Metal Effect
Paper Mache Letters or numbers
Spray paint in Black and Silver
Metal Brads
Foam Brushes
1) Paint letters black. Let dry.
2) Dry brush silver acrylic paint leaving quite a bit of black. Let dry
3) Apply another coat of silver. Make sure to leave some black showing to add dimension.
4) Decide where you want to add brads. Poke small hole. Using E6000 attach brads to letters or numbers to add to the industrial look.
Supplies (For Rust Effect)
Paper Mache Letters or numbers
Modern Masters Rust Kit
Metal Brads
Foam Brushes
1) Paint letters with iron paint. Let dry. Repeat
2) Spray letters with rust activator. Wait 5 minutes and spray again. Let dry
3) Decide where you want to add brads. Poke small hole. Using E6000 attach brads to letters or numbers to add to the industrial look.
By recreating your own “metal” looking letters you are saving at least $15 PER letter, yes PER letter! It’s crazy how expensive these industrial letters can be in stores like Pottery Barn and Anthropolgie.
