Step 1) Decide on your background. I used a scrap board piece that I trimmed out with some left over trim pieces. You can also buy wood or canvas boards.

Step 2) Begin laying out the pieces you have collected to get an idea of how you want them to look. Have fun with this. There is no right or wrong, just play with it until you like it.

Step 3) Start attaching your treasures to your board. This can be done with screws and a drill or adhesive depending on your materials. Mine were metal so I used screws to attach mine.

For my project I decided when I had it all together I wanted more depth so I added a cabinet knob.

To bring all of the different elements together, I spray painted the entire piece in Rustoleum Gloss White.

And glossy paint makes everything feel fancy right?

I decided to add a pop of color by spray painting my knob in Rustoleum Seaside Gloss…now it’s perfect!

I’m going to make 2 more pieces of DIY wall art to go along with this one.  I am thinking I will paint one all Seaside Blue with a white knob and the other will be a 50/50 mix of the 2 colors.  I can’t wait to hang them in my guest room at the lake house.

As a post note, this is the first time I used all metal materials and I am kind of in love with the metal look as well. What do you think? With the right frame you could really pump up the industrial look that everyone is falling in love with! That is my favorite part of DIY projects, you never know how they may evolve!
