I shared my outdoor wedding decor in How To Decorate A Dream Wedding and now it is time to share how we created a rustic theme wedding for the reception.

Let me start by saying “This was no ordinary barn!” This place was beautiful so any decorations I did were just icing on the cake!

The colors for the wedding were turquoise, tangerine and burlap. It was such a pretty color combination. We added baby’s breath and some cream accents for a romantic touch.

We began by painting all of the mason jars in the wedding colors. Brandi actually had this done for me when I got there which was great because we were short on time.

She hand-painted the jars with a brush because she couldn’t find the right color in spray paint, but they could have been spray painted if you wanted to speed up the process.

We hot-glued thin burlap ribbon to the outside of the tangerine jars

We hot-glued wide ribbon on the turquoise jars and then repeated the process with the cans using burlap & lace ribbon

I am going to share a little secret with you all. When I need long lengths of burlap, I buy rolls of burlap in the gardening section of the hardware store. It is packaged to be used for seed germination and erosion control. It is much less expensive and is perfect for what we need it for…Table Runners

This burlap roll measures 3′ wide x 24′ length. Our tables are 3′ wide x 8′ wide so we put 3 tables together lengthwise which gave us a perfect length for an entire roll of the burlap. We cut the width in half.

TIP ALERT:  You will not want to miss this tip for cutting burlap.

Cutting burlap in a straight line is no easy task but with this tip will make you cut like a pro

Decide where you want to cut. In this case, I want to find and cut right down the middle. Find the middle thread and pull it completely out.

This will give you a gap which will run right down the middle and give you a cutting guide.

We used disposable plastic table cloths as the base layer for the table. The next layer is the homemade burlap runner.

The 3rd layer is the chevron ribbon in either tangerine or turquoise. Next, 1.5″ -2″ thick platforms made from cut logs.

Then we started adding the mason jars, the candles, the buckets, the painted tin cans, the photos and all things special to the couple (aka My brother and new sister!!!)

We also added a candy buffet with Matt and Brandi’s favorite candies.

We kept our vintage window theme going with the candy buffet sign. It says  “Our day is sweeter because you are here”.

For the glass containers I took simple glass vases and glued glass candlesticks to the bottom of them with E6000.

Some great candy ideas for a candy buffet are:

  • Hot Tamales
  • Hershey Kisses
  • Skittles
  • Gummy Bears
  • Tootsie Rolls
  • Fun Size Candy Bars
  • Peanut M & M’s
  • Peanut Butter M & M’s
  • M & M’s
  • Peanuts
  • Trail Mix
  • Runts
  • Jelly Beans
  • Reese’s Pieces
  • Gum Balls

This sums up this “Rustic Theme Wedding From The Heart”.  There is only one word to describe this experience…AWESOME! The love these two people share is immeasurable. I couldn’t be more happy for them.

My advice for the newlyweds:

“A perfect marriage is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other…”

Never Give Up!
