tools for eating keto

Eating Keto

While you can certainly start your Keto journey with no tools at all, I have found these tools have made eating keto much easier.

Tools For Eating Keto:

Nutrition App

You will want to find a user-friendly app to keep track of your macros…this is important.  You will here a lot of people talk about “lazy keto”.  They mean they didn’t track anything to lose the weight.  This may work for some but when you stall, there will be no way for anyone to help you if you have no log.  I personally use carb manager.  There is a free version but it only allows you to log 5 items so you will definitely need to upgrade to the paid version.  I know a lot of people who use my fitness pal and are very happy with it.  Search your app store and find one you like.

Digital Food Scale

I weigh everything…even liquids and salad dressing.  Weighing your food in the beginning is the only way to know how much you are eating.

Measuring Tape

Make sure you take your measurements before starting your Keto Diet.  This will become very valuable as you go on this journey.  You see, the scale can play tricks with your mind but the tape measure doesn’t lie.  You will lose inches even if your weight doesn’t budge.

Journal/Health Planner

This journal is a great place to keep your body measurements, keto tests, blood pressure and any other measurements you may want to journal for your healthy lifestyle.

Ketone test strips

These urine strips have pros and cons.  They can give you a false positive if you are dehydrated.  They are, however, inexpensive and can help you gauge if you are on the right track.  The best way to test whether or not you are in ketosis is to test your blood.

Ketone Monitor (This is what I use)

When eating Keto, testing your blood is the best way to see if you are in ketosis.

Ketone Test Strips

These test strips are needed for the ketone monitor.

Fitbit Charge 2

I purchased a fitbit right after Christmas and I love it!  It tracks my steps, my heart rate and my sleep patterns.

Fitbit Aria 2 – Wi Fi Bluetooth Smart Scale

If you are looking for a new scale and you have a fit bit, this is the scale for you!  It automatically syncs your weight, body fat and hydration levels to your fitbit.

Stick Blender

This is a handy little tool when making Bullet Proof Coffee.  It makes your whipping cream nice and frothy.

Torani syrups

These sugar-free syrups are tasty if you like a flavored coffee.

Spirilizer

I love this for making zucchini noodles.

Food processor

I use a food processor for everything!  I make cauliflower rice, twice-baked cauliflower, and fresh salsa every week.

The Workout Log

It’s nice to have a notebook to take with you to the gym to jot down the amount of weights you are lifting and your cardio achievements.  Trust me…you will love looking back at your accomplishments.

Meal Prep Containers

Meal prep is critical to your success when eating keto.  These handy containers are microwave and dishwasher safe and fit nicely in a lunchbox.

My favorite lunchbox

I seriously could not survive without this lunch box.  I am on the road or on a jobsite 8-10 hours/day.  This bag has separate trays for your meal prep containers, a place for a snack, ice packs and bottles of water.

As I discover new tools, I will add to this list so check back often.

Don’t be overwhelmed…you’ve got this!  I believe in you.

XOXO,

Leanne
