Before hanging drywall in your home, make sure everything that’s supposed to be in the wall cavity is in place. Here’s a checklist of items that need to be installed before the drywall goes up:
□ Plumbing: Drain lines along with hot and cold water lines.
□ Heating and Cooling: Any ductwork for room vents and air return.
□ Electrical: All wiring and electrical boxes installed for wall outlets, switches, and light
fixtures.
□ Wiring: Make sure you run wiring for cable, internet, speakers, alarm system, and don’t
forget the doorbell
□ Blocking: Install wood blocks anywhere you may need extra support hanging items
such as:
- Towel Bars
- Handicap Safety Rails
- Toilet Paper Holders
- Flat screen TV’s
- Cabinetry
- Curtain rods
- Heavy mirrors
- Behind doors where the door knobs will bang into the wall.
□ Marking: Mark electrical boxes and switches in case one gets covered with insulation
and/or drywall
□ Just-In-Case Pipe: 1-1/2”-2” PVC from basement to attic to feed future wiring
□ Photos: You will NEVER regret taking too many pictures. Snap pics of every wall of
every room so you know exactly where everything is once the walls are up.
□ Insulation: This is the last thing you do before drywall is installed.
- Insulate interior walls for sound deadening.
- Insulate exterior walls is for climate control.
