As a professional contractor and a self proclaimed upcycler I have painted and refinished hundreds of pieces of furniture! To be honest I was painting furniture before it was ok to paint furniture. I was the person who took old pieces of wood furniture that had been in my basement not being used and began painting it so I would fall in love with it and actually use it! Slowly my neighbors who once chastised me for painting the wood began to realize that maybe it was better to make an old unused piece of furniture into something that is loved was not such a bad idea, even if that did involve painting it. Painting Furniture with a Chalky Finish Paint
The look is awesome! The durability is awesome! The easy prep before painting is awesome! The price of a quart of chalk style paint… not so awesome! Who wants to have to spend $40 painting a $10 garage sale find? Not me! So I stayed away from the chalky finish paint craze for a long time. When clients started asking about painting some of their furniture pieces I knew it was time to find an alternative. Enter the new era of…
Painting with Diva of DIY Chalk Mix:
The great thing about our Chalk Mix is that it can be added to any latex paint, including samples to make a chalk style finish paint. That means you can do the painting in your favorite color, not some brands favorite color! It makes coordinating with your decor a breeze and a fraction of the cost!
All you do is mix 4 TBL spoons of Diva of DIY Chalk Mix and 2 TBL of water to 1 Cup of flat or satin latex paint.
Stir it up and you can start painting with your creamy chalky finish paint! A little paint goes a long way but you are in luck… put you leftover paint in an air tight container and save it for another project. The paint will not harden and dry up like some of the homemade chalk style paint recipes you will find.
*Diva Tip: If you double the mix to 8TBL you have chalkboard paint! Yep! Chalkboard paint in any color you choose!
Check out that coverage! For a full tutorial check out, See What Happens to this Table with a Little Paint and Wax. It will also show you how Dirty Wax will help you lift your game when it comes to painted furniture! Protection and distressing all in one!
I recently sent samples of the Chalk Mix to some of my favorite bloggers and asked them to try it.
Check out their amazing projects! I highly recommend all of their blogs for great DIY ideas. I knew they would be the perfect bloggers to try out the Chalk Mix and let me know what they thought of it. I respect their opinions and after you see their projects I know you will too. I could not be more excited to share these with you!
