Is your dining room chairs crying out for help? Let the Diva of DIY, Leanne Lee, show you how to paint chairs so that you can have a gorgeous dining area!

How to Paint Chairs

These chairs had seen MUCH better days! Over the years wood tends to get scratched, stain fades and just have a tired look to them. While I don’t mind tired old wood, these dining room chairs needed a bit of paint to add some fun to the dining area. Now the chairs are absolutely stunning!

Another tip that I like to give my clients is that not all the chairs need to be the same. If you are in need of seating pick up chairs at your local garage sales and thrift stores. I love to paint each chair a different color to brighten up and add fun to a room. This is also great for a kids playroom!

Supplies

chair before removing cushion

First you need to remove the cushion. To do that flip your chair over and remove the 4 screws that is holding it in. Now chances are the fabric is worn. You can either recover the cushion or you can paint it! I showed you how you can paint upholstery a few weeks ago.

Next lightly sand the wood frame of the chair and wipe clean with degreaser.

Note: Amy Howard’s At Home paint instructions say no sanding required. You all know that I am a professional painter so I believe in sanding. Feel free to skip this step if you like but don’t blame me if you are not happy with the result!

In a well ventilated area, spray the frames of the chair with the Golden Egg Furniture Lacquer or comparable spray paint. (Latex or oil enamel can be used in place of spray paint). Let Dry completely and give the chairs a second coat.

Once everything has dried you can re-install the seat cushions. You now have gorgeous looking chairs that your friends and family will envy! They may even ask for you to paint their chairs!
