What once was a boring plain ore is now beautiful artwork that The Diva of DIY, Leanne Lee, created for the Double H Ranch which received a makeover from Chef Robert Irvine on a episode of Restaurant: Impossible.

These Painted Oars were so fun to make. We incorporated all of the bright paint colors we used on the Herringbone Shuffle Stenciled wall in these Oars. I want to thank Sherwin Williams for providing the paint and sundries we used for all of these projects at the Double H Ranch.

We ordered all of these oars and had them delivered directly to the job site. We gave each one a light sand with 220-grit sandpaper to help the paint adhere to the otherwise glossy surface.

Next, I taped and taped and taped. (I used Frog Tape Brand painters tape) in different widths to create different designs.  I didn’t have a template to create the different patterns. I just winged it and i think they turned out very cool so don’t over think this step. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow on projects and this was definitely one of them.

Once you get them all taped off, use a stir stick or credit card to burnish down the edges of the tape. I love Frog Tape because it does such a good job of preventing the paint from bleeding but this step…well …call it a trick of the trade. {And it’s unfortunate, but, I’m not even getting paid to plug Frog Tape….maybe I should approach them!}

Now all that is left is to paint away!

Anyone who has ever painted knows that pulling the tape is the best part right???  Here is what one of the oars looked like before I pulled the tape.  I feel like we need suspenseful music right now ……….

Tada!!!!! The oar masterpieces! I made 9 of them for the ranch and each one had it’s own unique character.

Here is another shot of the oars in a different space…I am smiling right now. I♥ these, don’t you?!?

I have already had several orders for these oars. If anyone is interested having one or more made, send me an email and I can give you more information.

Be sure to check out all the projects that we covered at the Restaurant Impossible Holiday Special at the Double H Ranch.
