It has always been a tradition in our family to plant flowers on Mother’s Day.  I so look forward to our annual family trip to Larry’s Nursery to pick out hanging baskets for my porch and annuals for my pots and flower beds.

Last year I visited an estate sale right before Mother’s Day and scored an amazing brass headboard and footboard for $50.00. I knew exactly what I was going to do with it…

PLANT A REAL FLOWER BED!!!

I’m telling you that once you begin upcycling you will become addicted. You will see items in ways that you never imagined that you would. I can’t wait for my passion to become your passion!

flower bed step 1

I began this flower bed project by digging holes in the ground to hold the legs of the headboard and footboard.  Technically, I actually let my boys do that.

Hello? It’s Mother’s Day!

Then I tilled up the dirt a bit and added some topsoil to ensure a good foundation for planting. I took care of that because, well….I wanted it done right!

The next step was to plant the flowers.  I chose varigated impatients because there is a great deal of shade in this area.

I added some mulch to hold the water and that is it…super simple.  All that is left is a good watering and a little time.

Wasn’t the flower bed beautiful?  I cannot wait to plant it again this year!  We have now have added another family tradition to the list…Plant a Mother’s Day Flower Bed and I love it!
