Coasters are one of those home goods that you always need but never think to purchase so why not make DIY coasters and personalize them! I have two different ways I like to make coasters that are function and unique at the same time. These make the perfect DIY gift.

Supplies to Make DIY Coasters
Using Stamps
- 4″ x 4″ travertine tiles (I usually give sets of 4 coasters)
- Rubber Stamp Set (I used this set)
- Ink
(This is what I used)
- Rubber door stops
- Craft Adhesive
(This is my favorite)
- Jute
Using Photos
- Photocopies of black/white family photos
- Mod Podge
- 4″ x 4″ travertine tiles (I usually make sets of 4 coasters)
- Rubber Door Bumpers
- Craft Adhesive
- Jute
I usually choose a stamp set so that I can make each coaster a little different but so they coordinate. You could obviously do all of them with 1 design or initial.
Instructions to Make DIY Coasters
Using Stamps
Step 1) Make sure tiles are free of dust
Step 2) Tap stamp in Jet Black ink
Step 3) Let dry
Step 4) Add Door stoppers
Step 5) Tie the 4 coasters together with jute
Using Photos
Step 1) Make sure tiles are free of dust
Step 2) Using photocopies of images, cut to size of tile
Step 3) Apply a layer of Mod Podge 
Step 4) Apply Photo to Tile and smooth down photo
Step 5) Apply layer of Mod Podge on top of photo
Step 6) Allow Mod Podge to dry. Repeat this 3 times for best protection.
Step 7) Add stoppers to the bottom with Craft Adhesive
Pro Tip: This project is done on travertine tiles because they are porous. Regular ceramic tiles do not work well for coasters because they will not absorb the “sweat” from the glass or cup.
If there are any imperfections when you stamp on the coasters don’t stress out! Little imperfections only add character to your DIY coasters project! Let your kids get involved in this to make coasters as gifts for their teacher, grandparents and neighbors! These DIY coasters would also make a great gift for a new bride and groom.
