This herb garden bench will allow you to grow herbs outside during warm months and transport indoors during winter. That's a herb garden all year round!

I came across this bench at a local garage sale for $8. At that time I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to turn it into. So I took it back to the shop and placed it off to the side for a few weeks until I found time to transform it. Every day I walked past this bench and had lots of projects that I could do with it. But, I thought this Herb Garden Bench was a great idea because I am now able to take my herbs into the house once the weather becomes cool again! I just love that idea of ease and convenience for fresh herbs all year round.

If you have your bench you want to use this project is quick and easy. If you are needing to create a bench it’s pretty simple. Using two pieces of plywood create a back and seat. To secure them together  screw the back to the seat. Attach legs to the bottom of the seat.

The next step is tracing the planter. Place the planters on the bench. When you get the layout that you like grab a pencil and trace the bottom of the planter. Tracing the smallest part of the planter will allow you to set the planter in so that it doesn’t fall through.

Using a jig saw cut out each hole for all of the planters you’ll be adding.

Once you’ve cut all the holes insert the planters filled with herbs and flowers for a completed project!

Because I loved the old finish on my bench I just cleaned it well and wrote “herbs de provence” on the back of the seat to add some character. Then I sprayed it with an acrylic sealer to protect the wood so my bench would last longer. Did you know a typical “herbs de provence” in France is the mixtures of savory, marjoram, rosemary, thyme and oregano? Well now you do! That is exactly what I plan on planting in my bench! Like I always say, everything has a story…
