Chore Chart Supplies needed :

  • 2’ x 4’ ¾” Purebond Stain-grade Maple Plywood
  • 1” x 3” Maple Trim boards cut to the following sizes:  2 boards at 48″ inches 2 boards at 19″
  • Veneer edging (optional)
  • Iron (optional)
  • Magnetic Primer
  • Dry Erase Kit
  • Espresso Stain (or color of your choice)
  • Fast-Drying Polyurethane
  • OOK D-Ring Hanger
  • Nail Gun
  • Ryobi Mitre Saw
  • (2) 3-piece mini paint roller kit

*Before purchasing the magnetic primer, have the paint department shake the can in a paint shaker.  This is extremely important because the iron particles have settled to the bottom of the can while sitting on the store shelf.

Chore Chart Instructions

Step 1)  Thoroughly stir the Magnetic Primer before pouring it into the paint tray.  Now pour just enough into the tray and load your roller.

Step 2)  Using medium pressure, roll your loaded foam roller across the top of the plywood panel, staying with the direction of the grain.

It will take at least 3 coats of magnetic primer.  Let paint dry 30 minutes between coats.  Diva Tip:  It is always better to apply multiple thin coats of paint than one thick, clumpy coat.  Let dry 4 hours after last coat.

Step 3)  Once the magnetic primer has fully dried, it’s time to mix the dry-erase paint

  • Begin by opening both cans…part A and part B.
  • Stir each can individually
  • Pour part A into part B
  • Stir well
  • Pour a small amount into a paint tray and load foam roller
  • Use within 1 hour of mixing

Step 4)  Using medium pressure, roll your loaded foam roller  across the Magnetic Primer

It will take at least 3 coats of the white dry-erase paint to cover the black magnetic primer.  Let dry 24 hours after last coat.

Step 5) Using your air nailer, attach the two 48″ stained or painted trim boards.

Step 6)  Using your air nailer, attach the two 19″ stained or painted trim boards.

Step 7)  Accessorize your DIY Chore Chart. Create a grid using dry erase markers.  Purchase or make chore chart magnets.  I purchased mine at Michael’s Craft Store.
