Choosing the right products for our remodel was almost more stressful than the project itself. There are always looming thoughts of “Is this upgrade worth the extra expense?”, “How do I know I am making the right decision?”, and “Where can I save money?” Because John and I love to “get our hands dirty”, I knew there were many aspects of the remodel we would tackle ourselves. On the other hand, I also knew there would be features of the house that would need the expertise of a licensed subcontractor.
One job we were not willing to tackle on our own was the heating and cooling system for the house. When selecting the HVAC products for our remodel, I thoroughly researched the industry to see what products were out there and what had changed since we remodeled our primary house in 2012.
Here are the 5 considerations that helped me choose the right HVAC products for our remodel:
The first step in choosing the best HVAC system for our remodel was to research the manufacturers in the industry. It does no good to select a product with high ratings if the company who built it won’t stand behind it. I chose Rheem for several reasons but one was reputation. There is much to be said for brands that have a proven record of consistently delivering on quality and performance.
Once we made the decision to use the Rheem brand of products, I contacted Kevin Goad, a certified Rheem installer. He came out and assessed our situation and put together a custom package for our new home. I recently met with Kevin to walk through the system. Here is video from that meeting:
Efficiency and Reliability:
I needed to know that I could trust this product to perform as it should for many years to come. As I researched the market, I found a recurring theme with the Rheem product line: efficiency and reliability. I knew that skimping on quality now could result in frustration and greater costs down the road when we had to repair.
Options to fit our lifestyle:
Because this is our second home, it was important for us to be able to connect to our home comfort system whether we were home or away. Rheem offered EcoNet, the first integrated system for your home’s heating, cooling and water heating equipment. This feature offered a whole new level of efficiency, convenience and comfort.
Above is a picture showing a screenshot of the app on my phone, the EcoNet module and the thermostat a.k.a. the control center. All three of these components talk to each other making it the ultimate in home automation.
Here is a video explaining how the EcoNet Control Center works:
Let’s face it…we would all love to have the best of the best when it comes to choosing products for our remodel. The reality is that sometimes your dreams may not be feasible within your budget and/or the cost may not be justified in the price point of your neighborhood. It has to make fiscal sense. After researching several HVAC brands, I found that most of the well-known brands had prices that were competitive. With that being said, the one factor that put Rheem on top for us was their EcoNet feature. Did you know that heating, cooling and water heating can account for more than 65% of a home’s energy use? By letting you set schedules for your air and water systems based on your lifestyle and usage needs, EcoNet makes saving more energy possible which, will save us more money in the long run.
Last but certainly not least was the product guarantee/warranty that’s offered by the manufacturer. A generous warranty is typically a sign of a high quality product and confidence that the product is going to work the way it is supposed to. This was super important to us, and after reviewing Rheem’s warranty information, we knew they offered a quality product they could be proud of.
Is this not the prettiest heat pump you have ever seen? LOL. Appearance was not one of my considerations for selecting an HVAC unit but I definitely consider it a major bonus (especially considering this is a lake house and we spend the majority of our time outside)!
Here is a small video explaining the benefits of the Rheem Heat Pump:
I was very fortunate to partner with Rheem on this project but please be rest assured in knowing that I only recommend products that fit my brand and will be beneficial to my readers. This is a sponsored post but, as always, my opinions are 100% my own.
