It’s back to school time around our house. My boys head back this week and I have been thinking about my oldest heading off to college next year. I can not believe he is starting his last year of High School. Of course my DIY mind has been spinning thinking about dorm rooms and making his space comfortable without breaking the bank. This carpet remnant area rug is my first of many projects I’m sure. I know it’s a year away but once I get going on something there is no stopping me.

Step 1) Lay our your samples and move them around until you get the pattern and size you want.

Step 2) Cut the binding edges off the carpet remnants using a square and utility knife.

Make sure to have something beneath the remnant to protect your working surface.

*Diva Tip: If you want your area rug to have an outside binding leave the binding on the outside sides of the rug.

Step 3) As you cut the bindings off place the carpet sample face down back in the same place to keep your pattern the same.

Step 4) When all the squares are finished make sure the outer edge is square. If needed trim the squares so your outer edges match up.

Step 5) Tape carpet at the seams.

Step 6) Reinforce the corners with cross tape.

It’s that simple! One of the greatest things about this area rug is that if you get a stain on the rug you can always replace that carpet remnant and it’s as good as new! That’s what make it the perfect rug for a dorm room or kids room.
