There are events that happen in our lives that are so amazing we will never forget them.  A couple of examples of those unforgettable moment are my wedding day each birth of my children.  Another experience I will never forget is decorating for my  brother’s wedding.

Cheap Wedding Ideas Signs

Have you ever been asked to do something so significant that you wept at the mere thought of it? You know…something that touched you so deeply that you wanted to hold on to it forever?  That is exactly how I felt when my brother asked if I would decorate for his wedding!!!

See, this isn’t just any brother. This is my baby brother. We are 14 years apart in age. I changed his diapers for goodness sake!  Any of you out there who have half brothers or sisters from another marriage know that it can be tough to connect when there are so many years between you.

I will admit, I thought he was a nuisance when he was little. I was in high school and wanted a life of my own. I would have to babysit him, bathe him and did I mention…change his diapers??? LOL

By the time he was 3 1/2 yrs old, I was off to college so growing up…we weren’t close.

As we got older and he matured (notice I said “he” LOL), we began to really connect. We always had each other’s back because we were family but now…we actually enjoyed spending time together.

Now fast forward to the present…

He is an amazing man with a great career and he has met the love of his life and they are getting married and I couldn’t be any happier!

Okay so enough with the mush now on to the good stuff!

The wedding theme:

Rustic & Western

So here it is…the backdrop for the wedding. This picture was taken a couple of hours before the ceremony.

*Notice the photobomber under the wagon. LOL

This post is part 1 of the wedding decor. The outdoor decor was made from windows, pallets, barn wood, chalkboard paint, burlap and drop cloths.  Just because something doesn’t cost a lot of money, doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful.   We will get to the inside decorations on part 2.

Let’s start with windows.

I used a lot of windows in the decor for several reasons:

  • They’re rustic
  • They’re inexpensive
  • I could personalize them
  • They could decorate with them in their new home

I have a friend who makes custom vinyl to fit anything. Her company is Vinyl Sensations and she makes my job easy. I had her make all of the quotes ahead of time so I could take them with me on the airplane.

Did I mention that my brother and I live 750 miles apart??? Talk about a tough decorating gig, huh?!?

This sign reminds me of a carved tree.

M(att) + B(randi) and their wedding date

I added a simple grapevine wreath to finish it off…super easy

This quote was a no-brainer.

The wedding was in Alabama and well…it comes from the best movie ever (Sweet Home Alabama)!

and last…but certainly not least…my favorite…

Zero Sleeps Forever!

This quote has such special meaning for the couple. They lived 2 hours apart from each other and they would count the number of sleeps until they would see each other again.

Isn’t that the sweetest thing you have ever heard???

 Next…Pallets

How can you not love a good George Straight tune???

I found a pallet. Sketched the quote out with chalk and then painted over the chalk with craft paints and an artist brush.

And more pallets…

 Chalkboard Paint/Barn Wood

I have a couple of tips for you when writing on a chalkboard.

1) Keep your chalk wet (have a cup of water next to you to dip your chalk in)

2) After your chalk has dried, spray it with aerosol hair spray to keep it from smudging 😉

And finally…a dropcloth & burlap

I made this sign using a drop cloth, a piece of burlap, some black craft paint and 4 horseshoes.
