Some of you may know that I worked on a episode of Restaurant: Impossible with Chef Robert Irvine.  This DIY mirror is by far my favorite project that we completed at the Double H Ranch.  {Have you read the Restaurant: Impossible Double H Ranch article? It features all the projects I completed for the show}.  I love the design, the color and that it incorporates my love of repurposing & upcycling.

This project was born when designers Cheryl and Nicole came to me and asked me to create a mirror (on a budget) that would make a statement. Umm…ok girls…you got it!

This is where this project started…the dumpster! I had remembered that several of the ceiling fans had been removed and replaced with lights. This is where I found them and they were perfect! I use to dumpster dive a lot, I wish I had the time…it’s an addiction once you start!

We found 6 of them, unfortunately it had rained a bit so several of the blades were wet and ultimately ruined…luckily there were enough!

The first thing we did was lay them all out to dry. Next, we spray painted them with 2 coats of Rustoleum Spray Paint; letting them dry between coats.

I met so many wonderful people who volunteered. Most of them were mom’s of campers here at the Double H Ranch. This is one of them…she became one of my spray-painting fairies! I must say, the project couldn’t have been completed without the amazing volunteers. It’s so amazing how so many people can come together in organized chaos like this and complete such a large project in a short amount of time…

Once they were dry, we fished through them and found the ones that had no water damage. We then flipped them over and screwed them to a 20″ wooden circle (spray-painted in the same color).

I wanted this mirror to have more of a starburst effect so attached one layer of blades all the way around and then I overlapped a second layer in the gaps of the first layer.

All that was left was flipping it over and attaching the mirror with Liquid Nails.  I think it is “fan”tastic and I hope you do too!
